Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) and Ostwestfalen-Lippe University (OWL) are partnering to facilitate a mobile laboratory that will provide partnering universities, the EFN, the façade industry and the design, engineering and building community with a localized platform for knowledge sharing, demonstration, experimentation and exhibition.
The mobile lab will “attend” annual conferences of the EFN as well as other related events across Europe. In addition to showcasing the latest in façade-related research and emerging technologies, it will provide the space and materials for participatory hands-on workshops at each event.
This project endeavors to provide sustainable and integrated solutions for the next generation of building envelopes comprised of low-impact materials, technologies and systems that place the human occupant at the center of the design and operations approach. The project team acknowledges that technologies and systems improvements must be designed for, and with, end-user comfort and control in mind in order to achieve actual long-term success and a reduced environmental footprint of any project.
Sustainability, embodied energy and occupant behavior and comfort will be core concepts in the course curriculum, workshop and design approach highlighting the potentials in enhanced façade and building envelope performance.
